We are in the position to recruit a Principle Software Engineer to work at our site in Boston Spa. Our beautiful rural Boston Spa site is easily accessible by car from the A1M (J45 northbound, J46 southbound) and there are bus services which stop outside the main gates from local areas. On a day-to-day basis our Principle Software Engineer takes a lead role in all aspects of the software implementation life cycle, including analysis, design, programming, testing and implementation with a strong service focus working in Active Partnership with the wider Library, to provide expertise and insight to meet our challenges. Principal Engineers in the British Library are expected to work autonomously as an individual and as part of larger cross functional teams, often including business partners and taking a lead in all technical matters.
It is essential that you have knowledge of software development using Java or C# with supporting frameworks and technologies. You will act as Technical Service Manager for systems as required, managing incident resolution, prioritising and managing work requests, ensuring change control procedures and configuration management processes are followed.
It is possible that you may be expected to occasionally travel between the Library's main sites of Boston Spa and St Pancras (London) or to external meetings with third parties, e.g. software vendors or other Legal Deposit Library teams. All travel is discussed and agreed ahead of time to ensure that our employees have a healthy work/life balance
