Transforming the
Library through Technology
The Technology department at the
British Library had undergone an ambitious programme to support the Library in
delivering services to meet the Library’s current and future needs.
As such we are now looking to recruit
two Senior Software Engineer’s to join our team at Boston Spa during this
exciting time of change and innovation. As a Senior Software Engineer you will
work as part of the Application Development team on our exciting new and
existing platforms, both designing and implementing new systems and also
developing enhancements to both our customer facing web based systems and
backend systems.
Whilst this role is based at Boston Spa
you main work focus will be delivering solutions for the London based
teams. This will involve frequent travel
and stays at St. Pancras, London in the first few months whilst getting up to
speed. Thereafter regular trips to
London will be required and the use of video conferencing/messaging will be
essential, so any previous remote working experience would be beneficial.
Our Application Development team runs
with a strong service focus workingin active
partnership with the wider Library to provide
expertise and insight to meet our challenges.
We work hard to ensure that our
customers - both internal and external - are delivered robust, easy to use and
well maintained systems.
We are looking for someone who brings a
strong background in software development using Agile Methodologies such as
Scrum, as well as substantial experience testing multiple scenarios in large
software packages. Whether your experience lies in the corporate or public
sector you’ll have knowledge of using C# and .Net with supporting frameworks
and technologies.
It’s essential that you have a Computer
Science, Software Engineering, technically related degree or equivalent
experience. You will have experience of interaction
with business users to gather requirements/solve problems and schedule
deployments and carrying out thorough integration testing. What’s more, you’ll
bring sound experience of interaction with business users to gather

You will deal effectively with matters of
a confidential nature. With your highly developed experience of troubleshooting
and optimising applications, you will easily interface with colleagues at every
level.
