Services for research data are a vital to supporting contemporary research, and the role of libraries in enabling data sharing and reuse continues to evolve. The British Library is looking for a Data Services Lead to help it to continue to define its role and services in this area.
Leading the small Data Services team, the role has primary responsibility for the on-going development and implementation of the British Library’s Research Data Strategy (http://bit.ly/BLDataStrategy) and will have over sight of existing services including DataCite UK. As part of the wider Research Infrastructure Services area, the post holder will develop new data services for the research community, including commercial, private and academic research, as well as the Library’s own staff. The Data Services Lead is expected to work with partners across the organisation, and represent the Library in the UK and internationally on projects and initiatives related to research data and persistent identifiers.
Applicants are expected to have an excellent
understanding of the research data environment and related policies. They will
have experience in delivering services particularly in collaboration with
operational staff, and can demonstrate an ability to work closely with a
variety of external collaborators to achieve shared goals. The successful
candidate will be familiar with persistent identifier services commonly used in
research, with the ability to communicate new or technical ideas and plans to a
wide variety of audiences both within the Library and to the wider research
community.
