The British Library is seeking to appoint a Project Lead for its contribution to FREYA (Connected Open Identifiers for Discovery, Access and Use of Research Resources), a 36-month project with a budget of €5m funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme. FREYA will contribute to the development of a robust environment for a wide range of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) to support provenance and recognition for research work. Its mission is to enable the emergence of a trustworthy e-infrastructure so that the potential of (Open) Science can be fully exploited. FREYA will play a key role in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). As a partner in FREYA, the British Library is focusing on integrating PIDs into its services, supporting the global PID infrastructure, providing training and working with academic communities (in particular in the humanities) to increase the use of PIDs. The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the British Library’s contributions to FREYA, coordinatingthe work of Library staff across participating departments, collaborating with consortium partners to contribute to the development of services related to PIDS and working with academic communities, in particular the (digital) humanities to increase the uptake of PIDs.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of persistent identifier systems (such as DOI, ISNI and ORCID) and their potential for the wider research environment (including research data and knowledge infrastructures). They will have experience with project management and working in a collaborative environment, including partnership and relationship management skills. In addition, they will have experience in an academic discipline, ideally in the humanities, and/or awareness of research processes.

In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits.  Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes 20.9%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
