The British library wishes to appoint a new Head of the Visual Arts Section. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and have overall management of the library’s Visual Arts collections (prints, drawings and photographs) relating to Asia and Africa, and to work on the core collection of photographic collections relating to India as well as other major photographic collections in the BL.  This is also an opportunity to interpret the collections by using innovative and traditional ways of presenting and researching the collection through online resources, engagement with academic and general users, media work, events, and contribution to online resources, exhibitions and the public programme.

The essential requirements for this role are a good honours degree in a discipline of central relevance for the collections and significant experience of the key material and cultural issues around managing historic photographic collections relating to Asia and Africa. You will have proven experience in a research library, academic or other equivalent environment. The successful candidate will have very good time management, the ability to work both independently and in a team, as well as information technology skills includingexperience working with web pages and producing or editing online content.

Highly desirable requirements are project management experience and working knowledge of one major relevant foreign language.
