Description

Full time, permanent

The British Library is one of the world’s greatest research libraries, committed to providing researchers with access to reliable digital content now and into the future. Our digital collection is one of the most exciting and heterogeneous in the world, containing everything from digitised books and newspapers to born digital maps, eBooks and sound.

This is a rare opportunity to join the Library as Preservation Repository Manager and help ensure our digital collections are properly preserved for future generations. This is a key role within the Digital Preservation Unit, responsible for managing the Library’s long term digital repository so that it complies with core policy and business needs. The post presents a chance to be involved in cutting edge, large scale repository service developments, and the post holder will lead a team of operational digital preservation staff to both use and promote digital preservation tools and solutions across the Library.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about digital preservation and the Library’s digital collections. Ideally you will have some prior experience of managing a digital repository, but you will definitely be comfortable with project management and be able to demonstrate excellent analytical skills as well as strong problem solving capabilities. You should have excellent organisational, managerial, and decision-making skills. The ability to work collaboratively and constructively in a matrix environment, including strong communication and influencing skills, will be key to ensuring the post delivers as expected. Most importantly you should care about the longevity of the Library’s digital collections and be motivated to work with colleagues to identify and mitigate risks to its survival over time.
