Full Time, Fixed Term for 9 Months

 

The British Library holds an internationally-important collection of Hebrew printed books and serials. Our primary aim is to complete the retroconversion of the card catalogue (representing  post-1960 acquisitions), so that they can be made more widely accessible and  discoverable.  The post holder will devote the majority of their time creating bibliographic records from the card index on a spread sheet. Cataloguing would be done according to the Library’s agreed level and prescribed standards, priorities and output targets using AACR2, MARC21, LCSH and LOC transliteration by way of creating, deriving or amending bibliographic records for the Library’s collection of Hebrew language material.  

 

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a relevant discipline and excellent knowledge of the Hebrew language. They will have knowledge of Jewish culture and history, and experience of working with Hebrew books. With excellent IT skills, experience of cataloguing and transliteration, they will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work as part of project teams
